Hi, this is Hazel. With us coming up to the end of the year, I can’t believe how quickly it has gone. We’re almost to 2019, can you believe it? Once Halloween happens, it just seems like it goes like zip, so when you’re thinking of how we’re going to start with our new year, 2019, everyone wants to make New Year’s resolutions.
Well, let me recommend that you don’t want to get big, big things, just one simple change. Think now about one simple change. Maybe okay, I’m going to start drinking more water. We need to drink half of our weight in ounces of water a day, so if we weighed, let’s just use a figure of 150 pounds, then than means we need to drink 75 ounces of water a day. That is a simple change. One way you can get that started is to drink two big glasses of water when you get up in the morning because you’re breaking your fast. You’ve slept all night, hopefully, and you haven’t had anything in your body for maybe eight hours, maybe six, maybe nine, I don’t know. Then you need to start refueling your body, and the best thing to do is drink water.
I drink one big glass of warm water when I first get up, and then I drink another big glass of warm water to start my day, and that’s when I take my capsules with the second glass of water. You think that you can’t drink that much, but try it. I guarantee you, you will drink more than you think you can because you’re thirsty. You don’t realize you’re thirsty. If you wait until you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated, so drink that. That’s one simple change.
Another thing, vow to do more about eating more fruits and vegetables. I ask people all the time, how many fresh vegetables have you had today? They have to really think about it, and usually the only thing they can think of as a vegetable is a French fry. That is a poor excuse for a vegetable. You need the green leafy vegetables or fruit. Maybe you can start thinking okay, I’m going to eat an apple a day. Remember that? An apple a day keeps the doctor away? A lot of those adages that we learned when we were young are really true. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. An apple a day keeps the doctor away. All of those things are really true, so maybe you can do that. Maybe you can eat more vegetables, decide that you will eat some kind of green vegetable every single day.
Just any little small change, and you could even start some of those now. Maybe you could think, okay, I don’t have to have a dessert every day. When I was growing up, we never had dessert. It was very special occasions was when we had dessert like a birthday or something. We didn’t have dessert every day, but people think they need that. They think when you go to a restaurant, they’ve got to order a dessert too. No, let’s cut those out.
Just one or two little things at a time, and once you get used to that, then something else you can add to it. I challenge you to rather than make a big New Year’s resolution, just make one simple change, and keep adding. After you get that accomplished, do another simple change, and you will live a healthier life just by doing that.
